Trust in God and in our brothers and sisters

It’s true that it is better to trust in God than in men, bonum est confidere in Domino, quam confidere in homine (Ps 118[117]:8). And so I tell you, put your trust in God above all, but also trust your brothers and sisters. By your charity and understanding, by sowing (with due prudence, but with full hands) a sense of security around you, make it difficult, in fact impossible, for people not to feel urged to respond to the open charity with which you treat them.

From friendship to proselytism: right and duty

At the same time, with respect and love we always have for the freedom of consciences, through your apostolate of trust and friendship get involved in people’s lives just as Jesus Christ got involved in ours, and work untiringly to bring new vocations, so that nobody who has a vocation to the Work can excuse themselves like the idle workers in the parable, by saying quia nemo nos conduxit (Matt 20:7), because nobody spoke to them.

Think, too, that we have the right and the duty to ensure that all the children whom God has prepared from all eternity come to this wonderful family of ours. Then it will last for as long as there are people on earth, and Jesus Christ can take possession of the many souls who hunger and thirst for God.⁵¹
