Sanctifying ordinary life

Our path is not that of martyrs (though if martyrdom comes we will receive it as a treasure), but that of confessors of the faith: to confess our faith, to show our faith in our daily life. This is because the members of the Work live an ordinary life, just the same as their companions in their environment or workplace. But in our daily work we should always manifest a well-ordered charity, the desire and the fact of making our work perfect through love. This means getting along with everyone, to bring them opportune et importune,⁷ with the help of the Lord and with human elegance, to the Christian life, and even to Christian perfection in the world. It also means detachment from the things of this earth, a personal poverty that is loved and lived.

We have to bear in mind the sanctifying importance of work and to feel the need to understand everyone so as to serve everyone, while knowing that we are children of Our Father who is in heaven. We must unite, in a way that ends up being connatural, the contemplative life with the active one, for this is what the spirit of the Work requires and God’s grace facilitates in those who serve him generously in this divine calling.
