Fulfilling the little duty of each moment

Your life and mine have to be ordinary ones. We try to do well, every day, the things we have an obligation to do. We carry out our divine mission in the world by fulfilling the little duty of every moment. Or rather, we make an effort to fulfil our duties, because sometimes we don’t succeed, and when night comes we have to tell our Lord in our examination: “I have no virtues to offer you today; I can only offer you shortcomings, but with your grace I will come to the point of being called ‘victor’.”

Our supernatural life, our divinisation, should not lead us to the stupidity of thinking that we have no shortcomings. Often we will have only imperfections, which we will fight against with God’s grace and the effort of our will. This struggle, this perseverance in the supernatural endeavour of making ordinary life divine, is what the Lord asks of us with the specific calling which we have received from Him.
