Financial means: the collaborators

And the finances for all this work? The Work is poor – it always will be – and cannot sustain such expenses. But we have a charming system, which consists of creating these apostolic instruments with money from others: from the students’ parents, collaborators, and friends, who will be assured of a fair rate of interest on the capital they have invested, and who will be offered the opportunity to cooperate actively and generously for their own good, for the good of their families and for the good of society, in a fruitful Christian apostolate.

In this way, moreover, the educational establishment will be something that belongs to them, which they will defend as citizens, if the time comes when it needs defending. And they will easily extend their collaboration to the other aspects – and not only to the financial aspect – of the teaching and apostolic activity, as fellow workers for the truth (3 John 8).

State aid

On the other hand, it will be fair to make use of the financial aid and subsidies that the State has the duty to grant to this kind of institution, because of the service they render to society, since “it corresponds to the State, in view of the common good, to promote in various ways the education and instruction of youth. It should begin by encouraging and assisting, of its own accord, the initiative and activity of the Church and the family.”19

Working with other entities

Consideration may also be given to financial assistance from private entities, industrial or other, in exchange for scientific research work that is useful for their current activity or future goals. This mutually beneficial collaboration must be linked to the educational centre in question, and not to the lecturer or group of lecturers working there at any given time: this helps to guarantee continuity, and makes it possible to pay higher salaries to all those who work professionally in these corporate apostolates.
