The periods of interior peace

In the voyages of our interior life and of our spiritual toil, God sometimes grants his apostles spells of calm weather, when the elements, our own deficiencies and external difficulties, are all stilled. Our soul rejoices in the beauty and power of the divine, both in ourselves and in others; we are filled with contentment and peace, along with certainty in our still vacillating faith. Especially at the beginning (at times, perhaps, for years) God tends to lead souls through less stormy seas, so as to consolidate them in their initial decision, without asking them at the beginning for what they cannot give, because they are still sicut modo geniti infantes (1 Pet 2:2), like newborn infants.
