Common sense and supernatural sense

Our method of teaching consists of affirmations, not of negations, and it can be reduced to two things: work with common sense, and work with supernatural sense. Among other manifestations of this method there is one that can be expressed as follows: great trust in God, trust in others, and mistrust of ourselves.

Not trusting one’s own judgment

Don’t be too quick to trust your own judgment. Just as precious metal is put to the test (it needs a touchstone), so too we have to see whether our judgment, in both human and supernatural matters, is pure gold or not. We do this by taking into account the opinions of others, especially those who have the grace of state to help us.

Ready to correct

That is why we always have to be ready to correct something we said previously. It is not humiliating to have to do so, but good and noble, and very much part of our supernatural method of teaching.

“The good of grace in a single person is greater than the natural good of the whole universe.”³³ We have to ask God always to inspire in our minds the faith and the supernatural outlook which give an objective hierarchy to our ideas, affections and actions. We should pray to have this criterion, because it is a gift from God.
