Living divine filiation

Divine filiation: when we have this marvellous conviction we will not lose our serenity. It enables us to feel secure, and to return if we have gone astray in some skirmish of our daily struggle, or even when it was a big defeat. Because of our weakness we can go astray and in fact sometimes do go astray. Let us feel that we are truly children of God and return to him gratefully, certain of being received by our heavenly Father.

The Lord speaks to us as a loving Father, if we choose to listen to him in the depths of our soul and through people and events. Without any drama, he gives us the appropriate graces, so that we have the strength and even the human energy we need to complete things as enthusiastically as we started them. Therefore, the divinisation that leads us to persevere, to be filled with confidence, to overcome obstacles, is not a cry of pride but of humility. It is a way of making our union with God evident, a sign of charity. Our very wretchedness is what leads us to seek refuge in God and so become divinised.
