Beginning and beginning again

Perhaps you will find yourselves at times – not in big things, and even if they were big they would be small – having to re-enact in your own life the event at Nain, recounted for us by St Luke: A man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” And the dead man sat up, and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother (Luke 7:12-15).

The interior life is just that: beginning and beginning again. The interior life consists of making many acts of contrition, love, and reparation. I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit. Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name (Ps 30[29]:1-4).
