The obstacle of interior dryness

My child, you might tell me at some moment that you find yourself tired and cold when fulfilling the Norms, that it seems as though you are play-acting. That play-acting is a great thing, my child: God is playing with us as a father plays with his children. God is eternal and, before him, you and I are like tiny children. Ludens in orbe terrarum:¹⁴ we are playing before God our Father, and God plays with us as fathers play with their children.

Acting in a divine play

If at some point, in the face of our effort or our dryness, the thought flashes through our mind that we are only play-acting, we should react by realising that a wonderful moment has come to perform a human play for a divine spectator. The spectator is God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – the Blessed Trinity. And with God our Lord, the Mother of God and the angels and saints of God will also be contemplating us.
