The light of faith

God lifts us up with the very thing by which he humbles us. If we let ourselves be led, if we obey, if we wholeheartedly accept purification, if we live by faith, then we will see with unimagined light. And afterwards we will think with amazement that from our birth until then we had been blind. Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).

In the final analysis, our conflicts are also a problem of humility. Look how the tax collector prays in the temple: “He stood far off, and so God more easily drew close to him. He did not dare to raise his eyes to heaven, and already had with him the One who created heaven (…). Whether he is far away or not depends on you. Love, and he will draw near to you; love, and he will dwell in you.”¹³
