How to start in a new place
Bear in mind that the Work is not somethingtransplanted, for a transplant can only be carried out in homeopathic doses. Opus Dei, however, is a theological, apostolic, and then juridical reality which has to be born in each country – whatever the race and whatever the continent – in the very flesh of the people of that race and continent. If we have good spirit, the Work will always take root in a natural way, and it will be totally supernatural: the Work of God.
Mission of the Father
When I write to you I am often reminded of those words of St Paul to the Ephesians, because I know well the clay I am made of, and where I might end up if God were to forsake me. Mihi omnium sanctorum minimo data est gratia haec, in gentibus evangelizare investigabiles divitias Christi, et illuminare omnes;11 to me, though I am the very least of all, God has given me this grace: to enlighten my children by showing them the wonderful ways of the Lord's wisdom and grace.
And I add from the bottom of my heart with all the humiliation of my lack of response: huius rei gratia flecto genua mea ad Patrem Domini nostri Iesu Christi, ex quo omnis paternitas in caelis et in terra nominatur (Eph 3:14-15, Vg); for this reason I bow my knees to the Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, from whom comes all fatherhood in heaven and on earth. You are children of God, and although you call me Father, you know well that I am nothing, just dust of the earth.
to me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ and to bring light to all men (Eph 3:8-9).
