Excursions
Excursions too can be useful for strengthening ties of friendship with the fellows and getting to know them better. It does them good from time to time to leave their normal surroundings of study or work. It could be a visit to a place of historical or cultural interest, or a simple stroll in the countryside, always provided that it is something reasonable and proportionate – we are not trying to test their physical endurance – and is something they are inclined to do.
With some “holy scheming”, on these excursions you can easily find an opportunity for a more intimate conversation with the fellows or for some short devotional practice, and so open their eyes to unsuspected horizons of holiness and apostolate.
Camps
During the vacations you can also organise camps, which have the same tone as our houses. There you can teach them many small practical ways to be attentive to others, you can help them acquire human virtues, and in a very natural way they can join us in some of our Norms of piety.
Summer jobs
Where it is customary for students to work during the university holidays, you can also arrange for some individuals or businesses to provide them with summer jobs. This will provide the boys or girls with an occupation that earns money, and at the same time we can continue to form them.
