Rectitude of intention

In order not to lose this unity of life, let us place our Lord as the goal of all our works. We have to do them non quasi hominibus placentes, sed Deo qui probat corda nostra (1 Thess 2:4); not to please men, but to please God who tests our hearts. Moreover, we should seek the presence of God: quaerite Dominum et confirmamini, quaerite faciem eius semper (Ps 105[104]:4, seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.

Raise your heart to God when the difficult moment of the day comes, when sadness tries to worm its way into our soul, when we feel the constant weight of life’s demands, and say, miserere mei, Domine, quoniam ad te clamavi tota die: laetifica animam servi tui, quoniam ad te, Domine, animam meam levavi (Ps 86[85]:3-4), have mercy on me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day. Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
