Being understanding with all souls

We need to be understanding of others, even if at times some people do not want to understand. The love for souls should lead you to love everyone, to seek excuses for them, to forgive them. This love should cover over all the deficiencies caused by human weakness; it has to be a marvellous charity, veritatem facientes in caritate (Eph 4:15), following the truth of the Gospel with charity.

Charity

Remember that charity does not consist so much in giving as in understanding others. I have told you that I am learning, in my own flesh, how it hurts not to be understood. I have always made an effort to make myself understood, but there are people who are determined not to understand me. This is another reason why I want to be understanding with everyone. You in your turn should always make an effort to be understanding with others.

Not discriminating

It is not merely by a circumstantial impulse, however, that we have this broad, universal, Catholic heart. Acting in such a way belongs to the very essence of the Work, because as we walk along all the paths of the earth our Lord wants us to sow seeds of understanding, of excusing, of forgiving, of charity, and of peace. We will never consider ourselves to be anyone’s enemy. The Work can never discriminate and it will never want to exclude anyone from its apostolate; otherwise it would be betraying its own purpose, the reason why God wanted it on earth.
