Apostolic work together with other citizens

So far, my dearest daughters and sons, I have made you consider some facets of the individual apostolate that each of you should exercise in your own surroundings, in the development of your ordinary work, profession or job. There are, however, other types of apostolate which with time my children will carry out all over the world, as ordinary citizens associating themselves with other citizens and always within the laws of the country where they work.

They will associate with other citizens, who are not necessarily Catholics, so as to develop together some professional work with an eminently apostolic purpose, that is, one that serves directly to give doctrine (because this is always our apostolate), even if its nature is not exclusively spiritual.

Undertakings: cultural, charitable and in the media

Usually this will involve things like cultural institutions, charities, the media, or the cinema. These should not be officially Catholic activities, although there may be some exceptions if it seems appropriate. But in general they should share the characteristic of my children’s personal apostolate that I have just spoken about: it will be professional, secular and lay work, done by citizens among their peers. It is not a matter of calling oneself Catholic but being Catholic, both in one’s individual actions and in working together.
