Freely, I say, because the bonds which unite us are exclusively spiritual. You are linked to one another and each of you to the whole Work only in seeking your personal sanctity and in bringing Christ’s light to your friends, your families, and those around you.
The Work only gives spiritual help
Thus you are citizens who fulfil their duties and exercise their rights. You join together in the Work only to be helped spiritually to seek sanctity and carry out apostolate, with some particular ascetical means and a particular mode of doing apostolate. The spiritual aim of the Work means we make no distinctions between races or peoples – we see only souls – and so excludes any idea of a political party or viewpoint.
The same thing applies everywhere. In whatever does not refer to the spirit and apostolate of the Work, you are united only in your commitment to faith, morals and social doctrine, which is the spirit of the Catholic Church and therefore of all the faithful.
