Saving all souls

I just don’t see how we can live in accord with the heart of Jesus Christ and not feel that we, like him, have been sent peccatores salvos facere (1 Tim 1:15), to save all sinners. Consequently, the attitude of any Christian has to be like that of St Paul: First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions… This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Tim 2:1-4).

Understanding everyone

St Paul offers us his personal example of how to live this doctrine: To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some (1 Cor 9:22). My daughters and sons, this is the spirit I have taught you to live. This spirit is an authentic manifestation of practical diversity, of openness, of an availability that has no limits.

God has given me this doctrine so that I can give it to you. And you must always live it out with your work in the many human endeavours which will develop over time in every corner of the earth, in order to help foster true unity and open dealings among all people.
