Duty to give good example

You have to give example in all areas, my children, including in your role as citizens. You should make an effort to fulfil your duties and to exercise your rights. Therefore, when we are carrying out our apostolic work, as Catholic citizens we observe civil law with the greatest respect and submission; we strive always to work within the limits of that law.

Duty to give doctrine

By our divine call and our specific formation we have to be salt and light for the world,17 since we are obliged to give example with a holy shamelessness: vir quidem non debet velare caput suum, quoniam imago et gloria Dei est.18 We are the image of God; therefore, Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven (Matt 5:16). We must not boast nor be like those trinket sellers who make a display of their merchandise to attract buyers. Rather, we should act with naturalness, and if they see us, they see us.
