Love for all types of work

We must love every type of human work, because work is our means for the sanctification of souls and for the glory of God. And if work, any honest human work, is the means, no one will be able to place any shores on this immense sea of apostolate, on this human and divine panorama that is presented before our eyes.

When the time comes to crystallize this apostolate of ours canonically, within the laws of the Church, we will say the same thing: that it is a sea without shores. But we will also point to some specific undertakings, because that is the normal thing to do.

You and I know and believe that the world’s sole mission is to give glory to God. The only meaning of our life is to promote the Creator’s eternal kingdom. Hence St Paul writes: whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Col 3:17). And we read in the first Letter to the Corinthians: whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God (1 Cor 10:31). All of us, then, are obliged to work, for work is a command from God and we must obey God cheerfully: servite Domino in laetitia (Ps 100[99]:2), serve the Lord with gladness.
