Vocation to apostolate in our work

St Matthew relates for us: Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest” (Matt 9:35-38).

Our hearts are rent by this cry of the Son of God, who laments that the harvest is great but the labourers few. Join me in asking the Lord of the harvest to send workers, people of all races and professions and social classes, to labour in this Work with supernatural outlook: rogate ergo Dominum messis, ut mittat operarios in messem suam!4 In this way many souls will feel this divine call, which enkindles in us the desire to seek perfection in the middle of the world.
