Poverty

The houses and Centres that are the physical element, the domicile of these corporate works, will not normally belong to us. This would not be appropriate, for many reasons. Moreover, it could not happen, because we are poor. The Work is poor now, in its beginnings, and it will always be poor, because God will never stop asking us to undertake more apostolic undertakings and to spend more money and more people in his service. We will work in rented houses, or in buildings belonging to the state, or in locales owned by a corporation formed by some of my children together with other citizens who want to help us.

Responsibility

Because we are poor, my daughters and sons will carry out these initiatives with a great sense of responsibility towards God. In any situation that arises which is not expressly foreseen in the specific norms that I have given, they will be guided by that formula, that sound criterion that you have so often heard from me: they will do what the father or mother of a large and poor family would do in the same circumstances.

Spiritual and apostolic aim

These corporate undertakings, as I was saying, exclude any other purpose that is not purely spiritual and apostolic. Hence it is possible and necessary for the Work, whose aims are exclusively supernatural, to take responsibility for ensuring the soundness of the Catholic doctrine imparted in them. They will not disseminate any corporate doctrines or opinions regarding temporal issues because, as I have told you again and again, such a corporate doctrine does not exist and cannot exist. Corporately we do not have any opinions of our own (as individuals, of course, we can have), we only have beliefs: the doctrine of the Church, which we accept without reserve, and which is the sole thing that unites us.
