Friendship with everyone

Even more, we will actively try to make friends, to win friends so as to make them friends of Jesus Christ. Our Lord wants to make use of us and of our dealings with others. He wants to use the capacity he has given us to love others and to make ourselves loved, so that he can continue making friends on earth. In just this way he used John the Baptist to seek out that other John, the one who was going to be his dearly beloved friend and whom we see leaning on Jesus’ breast on that memorable night of the Last Supper: erat ergo recumbens unus ex discipulis eius in sinu Iesu, quem diligebat Iesus.26

Let us make friends among all our professional colleagues and among everyone who lives in our environment, even though they may be far from God. I would even say that we should get closer to these latter, because they need us more. The first ones who need us are the weak Christians who do not live according to the faith they profess. Let us approach them with all our charity and all our understanding and offer them friendship that is sincere, authentic, human and supernatural.

Not to be afraid of contagion

Don’t let the danger of infection hold you back. With our contemplative life and fidelity to our spirit, our Norms and our customs, we are immunized against their errors and their example if they are not Christians. Since we love them with Christ’s heart, Jesus stands between them and us; then we will end up drowning evil in an abundance of good.

Notes
26

One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus’ side (John 13:23).
