We must make everyone understand that we cannot divide people into two categories: those who work, and those who think that they would lower themselves by working. Today it is clear that work is a service that all Christians are obliged to render out of love for God and, through him, out of love for the whole of humanity.

To those who don’t want to understand, I would dare to say: qui parce seminat, parce et metet: et qui seminat in benedictionibus, de benedictionibus et metet (2 Cor 9:6), whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Hence I am telling you, using the Apostle’s words, that it is not enough to work a lot; rather, we must work with supernatural outlook, because otherwise we will not receive blessings from heaven.

My daughters and sons, I would like to tell you something that makes me sad, very sad: they don’t understand me. I have been saying the same thing for four years now, but they do not understand. It is as if they were waterproofed. They seem unable to grasp, neither in their heads nor in their hearts, such great heroism done with no fanfare. And yet our generosity, even if it is complete, is very little compared to the infinite and loving generosity of the God-Man, who surrendered himself in sacrifice for our salvation, giving the last drop of his blood and the last breath of his life. That is why we too must give of ourselves without stinginess, being always responsive to God’s love, even though difficulties are not lacking.
