Love of God

The divine filiation is clear, but they did not understand him. Give thanks because you know that you are true children of God, because you know, as St John writes, that God is just. And you also know that whoever lives in accord with justice and practises the virtues is a legitimate child of God.¹⁰

I will continue reminding you with St John: See what love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. Beloved, we are God’s children now (1 John 3:1-2). St Paul confirms us in this belief when he writes: For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers, in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me” (Heb 2:10-13).
