Unconcerned for what people say

Don’t worry about what people say: work without looking askance at those around you – as many do – for to do otherwise is harmful and benefits nobody. Consider only whether God is pleased, and rejoice if you find that others have done the same.

Proud to serve

My daughters and sons, rejoice also when difficulties in work make you conscious that you are serving, for to serve for the sake of Love is a delightful thing: it fills the soul with peace, even if there is no shortage of unpleasantness. It is the great satisfaction of my life – may it be yours as well – to be the servant of the whole world.

Serving all souls

I want to serve God, and for the love of God, to serve lovingly all human beings, without distinction of language, race, nation or creed; without making any of those distinctions which people, more or less falsely, construct in the life of society.

Always a servant, and knowing how to be one

The mission to serve is great and beautiful. This good spirit – noble virtue – which harmonises perfectly with our love for freedom, should permeate all the work of my daughters and sons in Opus Dei. And I also want it to be the chief characteristic of my poor life as a priest and as your Father, to be and know how to be a servant always, especially in times – which will not be lacking – when many will flee from the humility of serving their neighbour.
