Directing well is difficult: it requires supernatural spirit and humanity

It is certainly a difficult task, because it is hard not to be carried away by appearances, and the faithful manager needs to be sensitive to the motions of the Holy Spirit, so as to distribute the Lord’s goods as the Lord Himself would do. Nor can he let himself follow the easier path, assigning the most disagreeable jobs to those who are good servants, precisely because they are such, or distributing tasks and positions without taking the necessary steps to prepare people properly.

You know that I dislike violence. But, humanly speaking, I can well understand that someone, no matter how upright he is – because of his noble desire to serve – would react abruptly if the only recognition he gets is constant ill-treatment. Even if he wasn’t looking for any earthly recompense, we are dealing with a human being, and it is easy for the bowstring to break if it is always in tension.
