We do not seek financial advantages

We shall continue to proceed in this way even though it may bring with it significant financial sacrifices. In Catholic countries, for example, institutes, schools etc., run by the Church or religious, often enjoy considerable advantages, at times being partially or totally exempt from taxation, or other financial benefits. Whenever we can do so, we are happy to renounce such privileges – which not everybody is happy with either – to ensure that we do not lose our lay manner of working and serving the Church.

We obtain other advantages

This approach, however, will also have its counterpart, because if these works were officially Catholic, some of the faithful – this is how things are, objectively speaking – and above all many non-Catholics would stop collaborating in them; and my children who direct them would be pestered by people asking them for money they do not have. There is no shortage of individuals who, with a distorted mentality, turn to Catholic apostolates to make money, like flies to honey.
