We do not offload personal responsibility onto bishops

In such circumstances, the good of souls necessarily demands a clear, positive attitude on the part of the Hierarchy, which we shall follow, despite the fact that unfortunately some people outside the Work may complain about the Church’s statements because they don’t like what they hear. There will be others who complain that the Church has failed to speak. This silence on the Church’s part will always hurt some, for the simple reason that they want to offload their own responsibility onto the episcopal Hierarchy of their country.

Attempts to impose unjust unity

If anyone tries to blame others for their own actions; or if they are reluctant to disappear from their sad little apostolic, political or social world; if they insist on taking credit for other people’s merits or successes; or if they are unwilling to renounce the pleasure of making a name for themselves, they would end up giving good grounds to the sowers of discord, and then the Church’s interventions could indeed be an occasion for scandal: not because of Her, who is the Teacher of truth, but through the disobedience of some of her children.
