Mission of service compatible with taking up positions of responsibility in civil life

With all this I remind you that you have to live in an exemplary way, serving the Church and souls disinterestedly. And I take this opportunity to point out, in passing, that the effort you make not to reject positions of responsibility in civil life is perfectly compatible with the reality of Opus Dei. The only objective of this noble effort, carried out with fully licit means, is disinterested service: it would be a diabolical temptation to attribute it to personal ambition.

You will work in these positions with the same spirit as you would do in hidden and humble tasks, eager to serve – I can find no better expression – fully convinced that, for the children of God in his Work, these tasks should always be obligations undertaken joyfully and carried out joyfully for love of the Lord and the whole of humanity.
