To serve is to imitate Christ
We want to serve, we feel honoured to do so and we are convinced that if we didn’t feel this way we wouldn’t be able to imitate Christ, which is our only desire. My children, it was for this that Our Lord came to the earth – filius hominis non venit ministrari, sed ministrare (Matt 20:28), the son of man came not to be served but to serve – and everyone who wants to follow him should not aspire to any other line of conduct.
I will say with St Paul, have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men (Phil 2:5-7).
