Freedom avoids interference with other initiatives
Abuses and meddling – which we will always struggle to avoid – could only arise if someone with a mistaken clerical mentality tried to impose a monolithic approach in any of the fields God has left open to people’s free opinion, so as not to lose, for example, the control of certain social, political or financial activities which vainly try to call themselves Catholic. We always stand up for freedom.
Unity of criterion is the mission of the hierarchy
Unity of criterion for Catholics, and therefore also for the members of the Work, can only be given by the Church’s ordinary Hierarchy, when they deem it expedient for the good of souls. Those who govern the Work have nothing to say then – nor before – because it is not their task to give guidance in these matters, in which each one of you is personally free and responsible.
