Unity of the apostolate

Ut omnes unum sint, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one – consummati in unum – and so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me (John 17:21-23).

This is the prayer Jesus addresses to God the Father, for us. And from the beginning of the Work this has also been the daily prayer of all God’s children in Opus Dei, in union with Christ: pro unitate apostolatus,⁴ for the unity which is given only by the Pope for the Church as a whole, and by the Bishop, in communion with the Holy See, for his diocese.
